Where most of Baltistan is bare rock and sand, Basho is green — thick pine forest, alpine meadows and glacial streams, reached by a rough jeep track off the Skardu–Gilgit road.

The valley is the region's favourite camping ground. Families pitch tents in the meadows, and a longer walk up the valley leads to waterfalls and summer shepherd settlements.

The final stretch of track is genuinely rough and often washed out after rain; a capable 4x4 and a local driver are essential.

Highlights

  • Pine forest and open camping meadows
  • Waterfall trek above the main meadow
  • Trout streams through the valley floor
