Thalle is the quiet valley between Shigar and Khaplu — stepped barley fields, poplar windbreaks, wooden bridges and villages that see a fraction of the visitors the main sights get.

The Thalle La pass at around 4,500 m connects the valley to Shigar and is a classic two-to-three day trek for walkers who want Karakoram scenery without expedition logistics.

For non-trekkers, a jeep day trip from Khaplu into the lower valley gives a genuine look at Balti farming life in high summer.
