Hushe is the last inhabited village up the Hushe river, a cluster of stone houses beneath Masherbrum (7,821 m) that has produced generations of Pakistan's best high-altitude porters and climbers.

For trekkers, Hushe is the road-head for the Charakusa valley, Gondogoro La, K6 and K7 — some of the most spectacular granite country in the Karakoram.

For everyone else it is simply one of the most dramatic villages in Pakistan, and the drive up from Khaplu along the Shyok and Hushe rivers is worth the day on its own.

Highlights

  • Masherbrum rising directly above the village
  • Trailhead for Charakusa valley and Gondogoro La
  • Community-run guest houses and porter families
  • Terraced fields and glacier-fed streams

How to get there
